The works on paper created during the Graz period (2005-2011) were made using colored pencils and soft pastels. From the outset, Arandelovic’s interest was solely focused on figurative art and the analysis of human experiences of fantasy and reality. Each work is deeply personal, be it fantasy or reality. In a large number of her artworks from this period, the woman is depicted alone and isolated from the outside world. This directs one’s full attention to solitude and melancholy as unforgettable companions of modern life. In her earlier works, Arandelovic also researches and deals with issues of female sexuality. Works from this period are full of symbolism and metaphor.
